BREWER AND DONELAN ANNOUNCE GRANT FOR ATHOL
SCHOOL STREET RESIDENCES
Boston – Senator Stephen M. Brewer (D-Barre) and Representative Christopher J. Donelan (D-Orange) announced today that the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) will be awarding $3,512,456 to the School Street Residences in Athol. As part of his Massachusetts Recovery Plan to secure the state’s economic future, Governor Deval Patrick announced that he will target $108 million from several state and federal affordable housing programs and tax credits to help support 39 affordable rental housing projects, yielding more than 2,000 affordable housing units across Massachusetts while helping to create thousands of jobs.
“This is fantastic news that Athol will be receiving this funding,” said Senator Brewer. “During these difficult times, we must make sure that our most vulnerable citizens are provided for. This project will greatly assist the residents of Athol and will provide homes for many deserving people.”
“I am delighted that Athol has received this grant,” said Representative Donelan. “This was truly a team effort between the state and Town Hall. All should be congratulated. This means jobs for Athol and tax revenue for the town.”
The Athol project will include the refurbishing of 50 affordable housing units, most of which will be affordable for low-income senior households.
