LOCAL ROAD PROJECTS TARGETED FOR FUNDS IN TRANSPORTATION BILL

Road Repair Money for Cities and Towns also in Bill

Boston, MA – Several Central Massachusetts road projects were included in the Transportation Bond Bill passed by the Senate on Thursday.

Senator Stephen M. Brewer (D-Barre) said that the bond bill is an outline for the maintenance of the current transportation infrastructure in the Commonwealth with an eye toward the future.

“The transportation bond bill authorizes the Governor to issue debt through the sale of bonds for transportation improvements statewide,” said Brewer. “The Senate has outlined its priorities in this bill.”

Brewer highlighted several of the road and bridge projects in his district for which funds would be directed according to the Senate bill:

Route 101 in the town of Ashburnham;

Route 122 in the town of Barre;

Route 9 in the town of Brookfield;

The Gilbertville Covered Bridge in Hardwick;

Route 62 in the town of Hubbardston;

West Brookfield Road in the Town of New Braintree;

Route 68 line in the town of Rutland;

Route 31in the town of Spencer;

Route 202 in the town of Templeton;

Hubbardston Road in the town of Templeton;

Route 202 in the Town of Templeton;

South Street and Chestnut Street in the town of Ware;

Wendell Road in the town of Warwick; and

Route 9 in the town of West Brookfield;

Brewer also pointed out a $450 million funding appropriation for cities and towns through Chapter 90 road and bridge funding program. The funding would be distributed over three years. “These funds are crucial to municipalities struggling to maintain local roads,” said Brewer

The House of Representatives recently approved a different version of the Transportation Bond Bill. A conference committee will negotiate the differences between the two bills before sending a final version to the Governor for approval.
